Guitars : Acoustic, Electric, Bass
and Don't Forget The Steel...
In order to value or ascertain the collectibility of any of these instruments, there are some basic things you need to know. What type of guitar is it? Is it a vintage  acoustic or do you plug it into an amplifier? Is it a flat top or an arch top? Does it have a hollow body or is it solid? Does it have a square neck or a round neck? Does it have a metal resonator attached? Is it a six string guitar or does it have twelve strings?

What brand name is your instrument? Is it a *Fender, *Gibson, *Gretsch, Guild,
Robert Bouchet , D'aquisto, D'angelico, Dan Electro, Ibanez, Ovation, Mosrite, Ampeg or Travis Bean? Maybe it says Montgomery Ward, or, Sears on the head stock. Believe it or not, some of those are quite valuable if you have the right model, year and color. Lets find out what you have.

OK you have identified your guitar as far as name brand, lets find a serial number.
Usually the serial number is one of just a few different places if in fact it exists. Many times it is found on the back of the head stock, or, neck either impressed into the wood, with decal, or, ink stamped .

Sometimes it is found inside a control cavity. On some early Fender guitars the number is found stamped on the bridge plate, or, the neck plate on the back of the body. Hollow body guitars most often have the serial number inside , visible through the f-hole, sometimes straight on and sometimes you must look up towards the inside neck.

Once you have the serial number, check to see if anything on the guitar appears to have been changed or upgraded. Are the machine heads original to the guitar, or, is it obvious they have been replaced?

Does the finish appear to have normal and obvious wear. Does it have original check marks in the patina, in the usual places. Is the neck straight? Does it have fret wear? Or has the instrument been damaged in any way?

These are just a few things that one needs to know before making a decision to purchase or sell at fair market value.

Thinking about a list of guitarist or famous people who play the guitar and this is the one
instrument  which would eclipse all other lists as far as sheer numbers go. Therer are so many
many that I could probably fill this web site with names of guitarists. If I did indeed fill this web
site with those names I could then fill a couple thousand web sites with comments from people
who would be angered by my list. Its a very touchy subject, everyone has their own list of
favorite players. These are just a few of my favorite players in no particular order, rank or
musical genre. Frank Gambale, Pat Martino, Scott Henderson, Django Rhineheadrt, Wes
Montgomery, George Benson, Les Paul, Eric Clapton, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler, Roy Clark,
Joe Walsh, John W. Geils , Jeff Beck , Johnny Winter, Deidre Cartwright, BB King, Calvin
Keyes, Ron Jackson, Alan Holdsworth, Frank Zappa, Charlie Hunter, Junior Brown, Stevie Ray
Vaughn, Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Chuck Berry, Joe Bonamassa, Eric
Johnson, Neil Young, Carlos Santanna, Pat Metheny, Kieth Richards, Albert King, this could go
for several more days, so I think I'll stop now. I hope I got one of your favorites on my list. While
we're making lists up we don't want to forget the bass players so how about, Joco Pastorius,
Chris Squire, Ray Brown, Niles Henning Orstead Pederson, Gary Willis, ...
